Post-Op Care for Lapiplasty® 3D Bunion Correction
What You Should Know About Lapiplasty® Bunion Surgery Recovery
Lapiplasty® offers a major upgrade to traditional bunion surgery—but like any surgical solution, it comes with a recovery period. Most patients begin walking in a boot within the first 10 days, switch to athletic shoes by week eight, and resume full activities within 4–6 months.
Quick recovery facts:
Most return to work in 2–4 weeks
Full activity usually resumes in 4–6 months
Success rate: 97–99% correction at 1+ year
At Foot & Ankle Centers of South Jersey, we’ve guided hundreds of patients through Lapiplasty® recovery—and now, we’re proud to offer Nanoplasty® as an even less invasive option.
What Makes Lapiplasty Recovery Different?
Lapiplasty 3D Bunion Correction corrects the root cause of bunions—not just the bump. By realigning the metatarsal bone in all three dimensions and stabilizing it with titanium plates, patients experience quicker recovery and stronger, longer-lasting results.
Unlike traditional bunion surgery, Lapiplasty patients can often return to normal shoes in half the time.

Recovery Timeline After Lapiplasty Surgery
Days 1–10: Initial Healing
You’ll wear a surgical boot and may begin partial weight-bearing. Focus on elevation, icing, and keeping the incision clean.
Foot is wrapped and kept elevated
Partial weight-bearing begins (with surgical boot)
Pain is managed with medication and icing
Most patients avoid work or driving during this window
Weeks 2–6: Mobility Increases
Your provider will likely clear you for more movement, often with the help of physical therapy. Swelling continues to decrease.
Walking in a boot becomes more comfortable
Sutures are removed and swelling decreases
Low-impact daily activity resumes
Weeks 6–8: Return to Normal Shoes
Patients typically move into wide athletic shoes and begin walking more normally.
Supportive sneakers or orthotics replace the boot
Patients with desk jobs often return to work
Custom orthotics may be recommended for long-term stability
Months 3–6: Full Return to Activity
Most patients are cleared for high-impact activities and full daily life by this point. Continued care helps prevent recurrence.
Activities like running, hiking, or dancing gradually resume
Physical therapy strengthens the joint and helps avoid stiffness
Most patients report minimal to no pain by this stage
